Gamification is taking the principles of fun and engagement from Video Games and applying it to the real world to improve life.


There are multiple Skinner Box techniques that can add to everyday activities such as:

  • Achievements
  • Leveling Up
  • Progress Bars
  • Quest Style Tasks
  • Points on Checklists
  • Reward systems

However techniques by themselves might not be enough to keep the fun and engagement that Video Games do.

Theory of FunEdit

One of the principles of creating fun in Game Design is to keep the player learning and presenting them with challenges. When the player masters the game, the game fairly quickly becomes boring. Hence, one of the challenges of gamification is to be able to continuously create challenges and learning experience for even the redundant parts of reality.
